Solar panel review provides an understanding of factors involved in investing in solar and renewable energy systems. With major players entering into the solar manufacturing, one wonders how to make an educated decision. Actually it is easy to find out which path to go. The secret is in knowing various pieces of information and how they relate to your situation.
To have a systematic approach, I define the decision making procedure into 3 areas:
1- Economics of the system.
2- Efficiency of the solar panel and supporting accessories.
3- Technical knowledge and skills.
Solar panel review should cover these areas to help you in your project. Economics of the system discusses the cost, geographical location, warranties, etc. The efficiency of the solar panel gives you the return on investment figure. The last and the most important issue is how knowledgeable you are in terms of the technology of the solar panels. In solar panel review I will try to get into more details of the technology driving this sector.
Solar panels are made of silicone materials. It is almost the same material used in semiconductor components. Examples of semiconductor components are transistors and Integrated Components widely used in computers, audio systems, TVs, and of course the cell phones.
To get a better understanding in solar panel review, I like to use an analogy to batteries. Let’s consider a portable CD player. It can be powered with several batteries. Using several batteries allow achieving higher voltage values by connecting them in series. If you connect six C Cell batteries, you get 9 volts (six times 1.5 volt for each battery). One might ask why not use a single 9 volt batteries instead. It would be much more convenient and the equipment can be made smaller. The answer relies in the fact that more individual batteries provide more power than a single 9 volts battery. (It should also be mentioned that if you open a 9 volt battery, you would find inside several small batteries). However if someone could hypothetically make a single 9 volt battery, it would be able to supply more power than individual batteries connected together.
The solar panels are made in two types; one of them is called monocrystalline. It is made up of one silicon crystal. Its physical characteristic is distinguished by a color resembling semi-transparent layers which look like different colors mixed with black color (Similar to color of gasoline poured onto the asphalt). They are more money than the next type. They are meant for higher temperature climates.
The other type is Polycrystalline solar panels which are made up of smaller individual cells which look like a tiled surface. They are less expensive, because it is easier to manufacture smaller cells and connect them together. They are meant for cooler temperature environments.
When reviewing solar panels, one has to also consider the accessories that go with it. For example, I can mention solar panel charger, backup batteries, wiring, and mounting hardware. The type of roof, and its positioning in respect to sun are to be considered.
